Soapy Skin Ethos
We are a UK based company located in Bolton in the North West of England. We produce all of our handmade skin care on site in our Manufacturing Studio, where care and attention is of the utmost importance. We opened our first Soapy Skin Shop in the middle of November 2017 in Bolton town centre.
We have never, and never will, test on animals. We support animal welfare and therefore all of our products are developed and created without the use of animal testing. We produce a range of holistic soaps, body scrubs, bath oils and moisturising body oils that are free from animal cruelty and support the belief of the Vegan customer.
We are an eco-friendly company who use ethically sourced ingredients from sustainable sources. The palm oil we use in our soaps is RSPO (roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil) Certified so our customers can be re-assured that we are not contributing to the destruction of the rainforest, and that the habitat of the orangutans is duly protected. In recent years we've become more aware of the devastating impact of deforestation and the effect this has on the wildlife and local communities due to palm oil production.
We strongly believe everyone has a duty to work with and for these communities. For this reason, we only use Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil. To minimise the negative impacts, RSPO have developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). One of the most important RSPO criteria states no primary forests or areas which contain endangered species, fragile ecosystems, or areas which are fundamental to meeting basic or traditional cultural needs of local communities, can be cleared.
There are many positives when discussing sustainable palm oil such as, protecting the environment and wildlife, supporting poverty reduction, safeguarding social interests, communities and workers and supporting affordable food prices.
Although using other vegetable oils may seem like the best solution, this could have a similar, if not worse, effect on the environment and wildlife. Replacing palm oil with other types of vegetable oil (such as sunflower, soybean or rapeseed oil) would mean that much larger amounts of land would need to be used, since palm trees produce 4-10 times more oil than other crops per unit of cultivated land. This would result in serious environmental damage, with the risk that more forests would need to be converted into agricultural land.
We have a range of skin care products that are developed specifically for sensitive skin. When David, a director at Soapy Skin, struggled to find a product on the market to ease the irritation and pain of his eczema, he decided to create his own solution. The products in this category all work to nourish, moisturise and protect sensitive skin. Our multi-award winning Goats milk honey oats soap and our award winning Goats milk honey Pure soap are both unscented and provide a cleanser that avoids drying out the skin and exasperating the dryness associated with eczema. Our Pure shampoo bar gives the customer an option to remove harsh chemicals from their cleansing routine, by providing a natural alternative to their liquid shampoo. Bath salts are another solution offered to remove impurities and nourish dry sensitive skin. Whether you suffer from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne or dry sensitive skin we could have something to help you.
